Time for an ADVENTURE…

Hello friends!!  I had plans to post this amazing blog this week about my family’s annual 4th of July camping trip.  I took all the picture and I have been writing it in my head for most of the week.  However, once we got back from camping – I basically had one day to get ready for my next adventure.  Today I am heading to Washington DC for my Museum Teachers Fellowship.  I will be spending a week in our nations capital studying at the United Statues Holocaust Memorial Museum.  I can not believe that I am doing this!

First of all – I have never left my hubby or my babies behind for more than two nights.  The idea of leaving then for a week has really got me anxious.  I know this will be an unreal opportunity – but it is hard to leave them behind.  I am writing now from my gate at Bangor International Airport.  I just left them at the curb – hugs and tears all around…especially from my sweet Sassy girl.  She is often over dramatic and emotional – but I did not think that she would be so upset that I am leaving.  Luckily – they have a fun filled day planned.  My hubby’s 20th high school reunion is today.  Yesterday we gathered at my good friend’s Kate’s camp in Bucksport.  All of his good high school buddies and their kiddos were there.  It was a day filled with swimming, giggles, lobster, and ended with toasting marshmallows over a fire and making smores.  My kids were asleep before we hit the pavement to head back home.  Today they are meeting up at the high school for a tour and then having lunch at Orono Pat’s Pizza (I’m slightly jealous!).  The kiddos are then headed back out to camp for the night so my hubby can have some quality pub crawl time with his friends.

I’m flying a bit after noon and landing in DC after 2pm. I woke up early this morning to make sure that I could get a quick run in – just 2.5 miles – but worth it to clear my head and get ready!! I will check into the hotel and then head to a local grocery store to get what I need to feel prepared for the week.  Another source of my anxiety about this trip has been worrying about staying on track with my eating and exercising!!  I’m not really sure why I am worried.  I am headed to a huge city where I will have access to everything I need.  I Googled it and there is a Whole Foods that is a 10 minute walk from my hotel…that’s my first stop!  I have packed other foods, protein powders, and snacks in my suitcase and carry on.  I think I’m ready to tackle this!

Washington DC ready!!  Traveling in a comfy stripped skirt and tank from Old Navy.  I also brought a cardigan…but just checked and it’s currently 82 degrees in DC….good grief!!

I will be doing daily updates this week to keep you up to date on what I am doing – if you are interested!!  I will post my epic camping trip blog when I get back!!

Griffy is in there behind me…but wasn’t in the picture mood!  Here we are headed to the air port!  Can’t believe I’m leaving these clowns behind for a week!!
